
Samantha currently serves as Executive Director and Principal Clarinet of the Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra (THSO) in Terre Haute, Indiana as well as Principal Clarinet of the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic (CIP) and Second Clarinet/E-Flat Clarinet of the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra (EPO). She served as Second Clarinet/E-flat Clarinet with the CIP prior to her current position as principal. As principal clarinet of the Terre Haute Symphony, she has performed W.A. Mozart's Clarinet Concerto on multiple occasions. Sammy is also a sough-after sub musician with ensembles such as the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra and the Carmel Symphony Orchestra in Carmel, Indiana. In February 2019, Samantha performed Krommer's Op. 35 Double Concerto alongside clarinetist Kylie Stultz-Dessent with the Columbus Symphony Orchestra of Indiana.
Samantha is a member of The Novacane Quartet, an award winning clarinet quartet founded in 2014. The Novacane Quartet’s mission is to create new avenues for art music and encourage composers to write new, quality works for the clarinet quartet repertoire. The Novacane Quartet's awards include grand prize for the Chicago Clarinet Ensemble's International Clarinet Ensemble Competition in 2014 and advancing as a semi-finalist in the 2016 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition. In July 2019, Novacane made its debut at the International Clarinet Association's ClarinetFest in Nashville, TN as a guest artist. She has also been an active instrumentalist with Reimagining Opera for Kids, a non-profit opera outreach group founded by Kim Carballo that commissions and performs children’s opera in Bloomington, Indiana schools and the surrounding area.
In addition to her performance career, Samantha has served as Executive Director of the Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra in Terre Haute, IN since July 2020. Her long-term objectives for the organization include bringing increased engagement and collaboration with other arts organizations, broadening the symphony’s outreach programs in music education, and expanding the symphony’s marketing presence on social media and beyond. Samantha graduated summa cum laude from Butler University with her Bachelor of Music degree in Clarinet Performance, studying with Achille Rossi, former clarinetist of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. While attending Butler, she performed Debussy’s Première rhapsodie with the Butler Symphony Orchestra as the school’s concerto competition winner and was inducted into the prestigious music fraternity, Pi Kappa Lambda. Samantha also enjoyed serving as Treasurer of the Zeta Chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota and received the Sword of Honor award for her service. Samantha received her Master’s degree in Clarinet Performance from the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University where she studied with Eli Eban.
In May 2023, Samantha earned a Doctor of Music degree in Clarinet Performance at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, studying with Howard Klug and Eli Eban. She also completed minors in Music Theory and Arts Administration. During her doctoral course work, she served as Associate Instructor for the IU clarinet department with the responsibilities of teaching secondary lessons, patterns classes for undergraduates, and master classes. Her final doctoral project is titled Creating New Career Paths in Music: A Graduate Level Minor Field Curriculum in Entrepreneurship for Musicians which outlines four graduate level courses in music technology, managing revenue streams as a private teacher, how to start and run a business or ensemble, and financial management topics for performing musicians.
